Frequently Asked Questions

How Lullabee Works

How does Lullabee differ from a standard crib mattress?

Lullabee is the only available crib mattress that detects when your child is awake and crying, then helps soothe your child back to sleep automatically. Lullabee is the same size as a standard crib mattress and was designed to replace it.

How does Lullabee work?

Lullabee works in two distinct phases – Support and Weaning. It moves between these phases automatically based on your child's sleep patterns.

During the Support Phase, Lullabee provides gentle vibration and sound to assist with falling back asleep and turns off when it detects your child has fallen back to sleep. The Weaning Phase gradually reduces the support, fostering independent sleep. Lullabee allows customization with various vibration patterns and audio options. More info here.

Is Lullabee a baby monitor?

No. Lullabee is designed specifically to help your child sleep. It does not serve as a baby monitor and you will not get any real-time feedback from Lullabee. If you're looking for a baby monitor, we highly recommend our friends at Nanit.

How does it differ from other “smart” sleep products like bassinets?

The goal of Lullabee is to foster independent sleep. Our goal is to use your child's previous sleep patterns to make changes automatically and, eventually, make the technology within Lullabee unnecessary so that Lullabee becomes just a comfortable crib mattress. It's a truly personalized technology. Lullabee's goal is to make the technology inside Lullabee unnecessary.

Here are some additional differences from other smart mattresses and bassinets on the market:

  • You can use Lullabee from birth until your child is too big for the crib (although you can still use it in your toddler bed!).
  • Lullabee automatically learns your child's sleep patterns and responds appropriately. When your child sleeps well, it gradually decreases the intensity of sound and vibration your child can receive.
  • Lullabee provides vibration and sound ONLY when your child is awake and crying. This is typically only a few minutes at night. In the clinical trial, Lullabee turned on an average of 8 minutes per night.
  • No swaddle is needed. Children can move and wiggle to their heart's content if and when you don't use a swaddle.

What ages can use Lullabee?

Any child that sleeps in a crib can sleep on a Lullabee mattress. Our mattress abides by strict federal safety regulations around crib mattresses and is safe and gentle for infants and toddlers.

Does it fit any crib?

Lullabee is designed to fit all standard-sized cribs. The mattress dimensions are 52" x 27.5" and is 5" thick

How do I turn the mattress on and off?

You can turn on the mattress by pushing the large middle button. Pressing briefly turns the mattress on. You will see the lights illuminate briefly, and Lullabee will chime, but it will not begin playing audio or vibrating. This only happens when it detects a child is crying and moving. To turn off, hold the power button for 3 seconds. You will hear an audio tune that indicates it is turning off.

How does Lullabee know if my child is awake and crying?

Lullabee has sensors deep within the mattress that can detect movements and analyze sound.

Why can't I make the mattress vibrate or play music whenever I want?

We designed Lullabee to be a true partner to parents in your sleep journey. Our goal is to get your child sleeping independently without needing special circumstances, lullabies, and vibrations as soon as possible. Lullabee works automatically, but only when your child truly needs it. If Lullabee detects your child is moving AND crying, it will produce vibration and sound based on your child's sleep patterns. You can choose what vibration pattern and audio options come from the device when Lullabee does activate. You decide the "what," and your baby and Lullabee decide the "when"!

Do I need to turn the mattress off when my child isn't using it?

It is up to you. You are welcome to leave the mattress turned on 24 hours a day. It automatically goes into sleep mode and awakens when your baby awakens.

There are two benefits to turning Lullabee off when not in use. First, it will conserve your battery. Second, the smartphone app will report how long the mattress was powered on each day. If you only turn the mattress on when your child is using the crib, this information may be helpful to estimate the amount of sleep each day.

How do you recommend I try out the vibration and audio options?

It's totally up to you. If you've had positive or negative experiences with certain kinds of sound machines, use that as an initial guide when experimenting with combinations. Note that when you press the respective audio and vibration buttons on the mattress, you will get a short sample of that option. You can also decide to turn the audio or vibration completely off.

How long should I wait to comfort my child if they start crying?

You know your child best, and Lullabee will never replace parenting. If they are hungry or need a diaper change, only a parent will do. But Lullabee can help when the child needs a little assistance to soothe back to sleep. How long to wait is your decision. However, if you want our recommendation, a conservative approach would be waiting thirty seconds for every month of age.

How long does the battery last?

The rechargable battery typically lasts 20 days or more between charges, depending on how often your Lullabee produces vibration and sound.

How will I know when the battery is low?

When you turn on the mattress, the middle power button will shine orange for a few seconds. If you are using the app, you will also get a low battery alert when you open the app.

How long does it take to charge the battery?

Approximately 4 hours.

Can I charge the battery while it's still in the mattress?

Can I flip the mattress?

Can an adult lie on the mattress?

We welcome you to experience the comfort your child will receive. Do not step on the mattress, as this could damage the electronics. But feel free to roll on the mattress, pretend to cry while you move, and let Lullabee comfort you.

Can I wash the cover?

Yes, the outer cover is designed to be removed for washing. Please wash in cold water on a gentle cycle and allow it to air dry. The inner cover is a mandatory flame-retardant barrier that accompanies all crib mattresses and cannot be removed.
