FAQ
What ages can use Lullabee?
Newborns through toddlers, but the earlier the better. Any child that can safely sleep in a crib can sleep on a Lullabee mattress. Our mattress fits any standard crib. It is safe and gentle for infants and toddlers.
How does Lullabee work?
Lullabee looks and feels like an ordinary crib mattress. However it has sensors embedded deep within the mattress to detect when your infant is awake and crying. It then soothes them back to sleep with gentle vibration and sound. It slowly stops soothing once the infant has fallen back to sleep.
But the goal of Lullabee is to adapt to your child's sleep needs and patterns. It works in two distinct phases – Support Phase and Weaning Phase. It moves between these phases automatically based on your child's sleep patterns.
During the Support Phase, Lullabee provides gentle vibration and sound to assist with falling back asleep and turns off when it detects your child has fallen back to sleep. The Weaning Phase gradually reduces the support, fostering independent sleep. Lullabee allows customization with various vibration patterns and audio options. More info here.
Is it safe?
Yes. Safety has been our top priority from the very beginning.
Lullabee was invented by a pediatric neurologist and sleep medicine physician at Duke University. It is a standard crib mattress that provides a firm, flat sleep surface and does not incline, rock, or change shape. It has undergone extensive third-party testing and meets all applicable federal crib mattress safety standards for firmness, chemical testing, flammability and EMC/RF.
The soothing vibration and sound are intentionally gentle and activate only when Lullabee detects that your baby has awakened and is fussing.
Lullabee is powered by a rechargeable lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery, one of the safest and most stable lithium battery chemistries available. The battery has also passed UL2054 battery safety testing for additional peace of mind.
Lullabee is designed and manufactured by a medical device engineering firm in the United States.
How does it differ from other “smart” sleep products like bassinets?
The goal of Lullabee is to foster independent sleep. Lullabee uses your child's previous sleep patterns to make changes automatically and, eventually, make the technology unnecessary so that Lullabee becomes just a comfortable crib mattress. But it's always ready to help again when the sleep regressions occur. It's a truly personalized technology.
Here are some additional differences from other smart mattresses and bassinets on the market:
- You can use Lullabee from birth until your child is too big for the crib (although you can still use it in your toddler bed!).
- Lullabee automatically learns your child's sleep patterns and responds appropriately. When your child sleeps well, it gradually decreases the intensity of sound and vibration your child can receive.
- Lullabee provides vibration and sound ONLY when your child is awake and crying. This is typically only a few minutes at night. In the clinical trial, Lullabee turned on an average of 8 minutes per night.
- No swaddle is needed. Children can move and wiggle to their heart's content if and when you don't use a swaddle.
Bluetooth or Wifi?
The optional app connects to Lullabee via Bluetooth, a low-energy connection designed to protect your battery while keeping things secure.
